You should know that cell phone numbers won't be listed in any sort of public directory, or on public phone listing sites such as WhitePages.com. In order to find information regarding the owner of a cell phone number, you need to do things differently.

Use Google. Why? Every single day people make their cell phone number available in a number of different ways for a number of reasons. People may list it in an ad on Craigslist, or they may put it on their Facebook or MySpace page. You never know. These pages are found by Google and if you search for someone's number and it's written somewhere on the Internet, Google will usually point you in the right direction.

If you can't find anything straightaway, try searching for the number in "quotes", as this tells Google to search for "exactly" what you've entered, for example; "555 555 5555". Try and think about how a phone number might be formatted. For instance, some people may write a number as 555 555 5555, while others may write it 555-555-5555 or even 555.555.5555. Try searching with and without the area code too, and just see what comes up.

Searching for a cell phone number this way doesn't guarantee results, but it is well worth giving it a go.
